Limousin (4) : Baugnies and Martin write wonderful story, 1st pro victory for Frenchman

In the final stage of Tour du Limousin (2.1, 15-18/08), Wanty-Groupe Gobert could turn his offensive attitude into results. After a fast start there was a fierce battle for the bonification seconds. Halfway a special breakaway took off. Jerome Baugnies and Guillaume Martin accelerated together 80 kilometers before the line. The two teammates found each other and wrote a wonderful story. For 80 kilometers they stayed ahead of the peloton. In Limoges Guillaume Martin was able to enjoy a beautiful first professional victory. Jerome Baugnies finished as a more than deserved 2nd. 19 seconds later Marco Minnaard was 15th and he is 9th in the final GC.

Guillaume Martin:

"From the start it was hard because of the bad weather. It were really epic circumstances. At a sudden moment Jerome (Baugnies) told me to take his wheel and then we accelerated together. I really have to thank Jerome for his guidance during the stage. It's a real winner who takes on these escapees as a master. It's very classy that he gave me the victory. This is even my first victory! "

"We realized a beautiful story, although I only realized 500m from the line that we got it. At the beginning of the year it was not easy for the team to win races. To realize the double today is just amazing. The day before yesterday I was disappointed because I did not have the legs and yesterday Thomas (Degand) came close to the win. We knew we were doing well, but we needed a win before the end of the season. We have built up a great atmosphere in this group over the last 10 days. "

"My first victory is just a matter of déclic, although my type will never win 10 races a year. This first victory tastes very good. The team trust in me, and I wanted to prove that they are right. Now the GP Plouay is on the program, and afterwards I head to Tour du Doubs and the GP de Wallonie."

Sébastien Demarbaix (sports director):

"It was really a great day. Like the past few days we were in the offensive all day. Guillaume and Jerome took off 80 kilometers from the finish. Once on the local circuit I really began to believe, mainly because of the course and the weather. The ambiance in this group is fantastic. I am very excited about this victory because we have been so close in the recent days."
