De Laat, De Decker and Goebeert trainees at Wanty-Groupe Gobert

De Laat, De Decker and Goebeert trainees at Wanty-Groupe Gobert

Wanty-Groupe Gobert has chosen its three trainees for the summer. The Belgian pro continental formation will rely on Jasper de LaatAlfdan De Decker and Pierre Goebeert. The trio will make its debut in the Wanty-Groupe Gobert colors in Polynormande (1.1, 05/08) on Sunday, alongside Guillaume Martin, Yoann Offredo, Fabien Doubey and Kevin Van Melsen.

Alfdan De Decker, 21, rides at Lotto-Soudal U23. Alfdan is a sprinter. The Belgian espoir has won Brussels-Opwijk and two stages of the Solidarnosc Race.

Jasper De Laat signs his second internship at Wanty-Groupe Gobert. The 24-year-old Dutchman was recruited last summer, but a crash prevented him from defending Wanty-Groupe Gobert's colors. Active at Metec, he finished 10th in Rhône-Alpes Isère Tour and 5th of Flèche du Sud.

Pierre Goebeert comes from the Ago-Aqua Service team. The 21-year-old Belgian has been crowned Champion FCWB this season. A specialist in the cobbled classics, the U23 rider from Gaurain-Ramecroix finished 5th in the GP Geluwe (Interclub) and 19th in the Tour of Flanders U23.

Jasper de Laat:

"It is really nice to get another chance after last year's setbacks. I had already been invited to the training camp in January to work on my condition, which allowed me to integrate well in the group. I am very happy about this opportunity offered by Wanty-Groupe Gobert. I want to show what I am capable of, accumulating experience and providing added value to the team. Every terrain suits me, although I especially appreciate the rough and selective races."

Alfdan De Decker:

"Actually, I did not expect to become a trainee. I was hoping a bit so I am really happy to receive this opportunity from Wanty-Groupe Gobert.  I combine cycling with my studies in physical education. I especially hope to learn and take advantage of the advice of the most experienced guys on the team. And why not convince the sportive direction of my qualities?
My speciality? The sprint, even if my favorite race is Paris-Roubaix. "

Pierre Goebeert:

"I was a little surprised when I was asked to become a trainee. It is great for me to be part of a team like Wanty-Groupe Gobert. I received my equipment on Thursday and I am looking forward to wear the jersey for the first time this weekend. I hope to have the level to meet the expectations of the team and to be able to help the collective as much as possible. I know sports director Sébastien Demarbaix well, as a sports director from my time at the juniors in Bury. This experience, for me who loves the Flemish classics, will be useful for the upcoming years.
