BinckBank Tour (2) - WGG survives slippery time trial without crashes

In the second stage of BinckBank Tour (2.WT, 07-13/08) the riders had to take on a 9km long time trial in Voorburg (the Netherlands). The riders were not spared by the weather elements as the rain fell plentiful from the sky. Stefan Küng quickly set the best time, which lasted until the end. Our riders finished safely in slippery conditions. Dion Smith finished as first WGG rider in a time of 11:41. In the classification Küng also is the new leader. Dion Smith is 59th 43 seconds begind. Tomorrow the peloton enters Belgium with the 3rd stage between Blankenberge and Ardooie.

Steven De Neef (sports director):

"We know that this is not our speciality, so the most important thing is that everyone finished safely. Dion Smith rode a solid time trial. Everyone has performed at his level, we could not expect more. We are looking forward to Wednesday."

"Normally it will be a sprint in Ardooie. It is a weird sprint with a chicane at 1 kilometer before the line. It will be crucial to be very strong in the final as a team. We will try to pilot Kenny Dehaes or Pieter Vanspeybrouck into a good position to the last kilometer."

"I think we can send Van Melsen or McNally into the break. If McNally is well recovered, he can compete for the combativity jersey. "
