Arctic Race (1) : Pasqualon happy with podium spot on tough finish

The first stage of Arctic Race of Norway (2.HC, 10-13/08) offered a spectacle throughout the whole day. At the side of the road the breathtaking landscapes of the Fjords amazed the spectators, but the battle was also bitter on the road. A big breakaway went clear after the first hour at a very high pace (49km/h). The peloton then controlled for a lively final. Yoann Offredo tried his luck about 20 kilometers from the finish, to be caught shortly before the first passage at the finish line. Our trainee Brecht Dhaene also showed his force in the peloton in the final, setting up the stage for our sprinter/puncher. On a demanding final towards the Narvik heights Dylan Teuns won with two seconds ahead of the peloton survivors, of which Andrea Pasqualon jumped to take the 3rd place in the stage. On Friday the second stage will lead the runners to Tromso, a priori for the sprinters even if a small bump complicates the final.

Andrea Pasqualon:

"I am very happy because this is my first race after a tough Tour de France. I thought Alexander Kristoff was the big favorite today, and that 's why I followed his wheel on the climb. But he didn't have the best legs. Dylan Teuns was at another level today, he accelerated and nobody could follow."

"It was a special stage, going up and down the whole day. It was a very fast final with a lot of rain. I am very satisfied of the team's performance. Our trainee Brecht Dhaene was strong on the last climb and also the others were in front with me before. They did a great job!"

"Now I will see what I can do over the next days. Tomorrow's stage is more flat, that should suit me. On Saturday the climbers have a big chance on an uphill finish. I want to achieve the best results as possible."
